The Oscars stand out as the annual rendezvous for film buffs. Each year, the ceremony recognizes excellence in the film industry. Directing, writing, acting, visual effects or photography are all areas rewarded.

For the 95th edition of the Oscars to be held on March 12, three films stand out. Thereby, Everything everywhere all at once scoops up 11 nominations while The Banshees of Inisherin and In the west, nothing is new are each entitled to 9 nominations.

Other films made waves in 2022 and the Academy is determined to reward them. There are a few surprises, both good and bad. Some blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, Black Panther: Wakanda or Avatar: The Way of the Water are nominated in several categories. As for the best actors and actresses, Paul Mescal in Under the sun (at the cinema with us on February 1) and Andrea Riseborough in To Leslie make a lot of noise and create surprise.

1) Everything everywhere at once

It’s the movie of 2022. Hard to missEverything everywhere all at oncehaving been a hit all over the world. Directed by the Daniels, this UFO has been in the news since its release last March in the United States. Although it is a post-pandemic independent film, the feature film finds its audience. And that’s good. After a dazzling success at golden globesthe deserved recognition ofEverything everywhere all at once continues with these 11 Oscar nominations.

While Marvel has control over the multiverse, the Daniels bring a breath of fresh air by offering us a completely twisted film on parallel universes, a “real life” version and far from what spectators are used to.

Best Film, Original Screenplay, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actors for Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, Original Song, Costumes… Everything everywhere all at once has all the cards in hand to raid the 95th Academy Awards in a few weeks.

2) Banshees of Inisherin

Released in our dark rooms between Christmas and New Year, The Banshees of Inisherin arrived discreetly. Still, Martin McDonagh’s new film is worth seeing. Starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, the feature film takes us to Irish soil. Touching, introspective and absurd, that’s how to describe The Banshees of Inisherin which made everyone agree.

The comedy with black humor offers 9 nominations. Best film, best director, best original screenplay, best editing, best actors (main or secondary) for Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Bary Keoghan or Kerry Condon are all categories in which shines The Banshees of Inisherin at the Oscars.

3) In the West, nothing new

More surprising than the multiple nominations ofEverything everywhere all at once and Banshees of Inisherinit is the stranglehold of the film In the west, nothing is new on this 95th ceremony. Distributed by netflixthe German feature film was released directly on the streaming platform on October 28th.

In the west, nothing is new adapts the eponymous novel by Erich Maria Remarque and immerses us in the moving story of Paul, a young German soldier who quickly becomes disillusioned when he discovers, with his comrades, the horror of the trenches during the First World War.

When it was released, the film hit Netflix subscribers, earning a place in the platform’s Top 10 most popular films for 8 consecutive weeks.

A film that did not go unnoticed since it was nominated in 9 categories at the Oscars. It competes in particular for the titles of best foreign language film, best adapted screenplay, best film music, best photography or best sets. A nice surprise that should please Netflix.

For several years, SVOD invite themselves to the most prestigious ceremonies like the Oscars or the Golden Globes. By imposing one of its films in the top 3 favorites of this umpteenth edition, Netflix should restore its image.
