99 new appointments to the Order of Canada

Sidney Crosby, Michel Côté and David St-Jacques are among the new personalities who were named Thursday to the Order of Canada, one of the highest honors granted in the country.

Governor General Mary Simon announced 99 new appointments to the Order, including two companions, 32 officers and 65 members.

Among the highest rank of companion is the promotion of actor and director Eugene Levy, known for his prolific career in Hollywood and more recently for the Canadian success of the series “Schitt’s Creek”.

Sidney Crosby meanwhile was made an officer of the Order for “being one of the greatest hockey players of all time”, but also for his support of community initiatives for young people.

We also find comedian Michel Côté – who announced his retirement from public life last April due to illness – astronaut David Saint-Jacques and musician James Ashley Corcoran.

Among the new members, we also note the presence of Dr. Stanley Vollant for his “exceptional career as the first Aboriginal surgeon in Quebec” as well as the journalist of “La Presse”, Michèle Ouimet, and the general manager of the festival en chanson de Petite -Valley, Alan Côté.

“True pioneers in their respective fields, they inspire, educate and mentor future generations, creating within our country a culture of excellence recognized around the world. Their commitment to making a better Canada fills me with pride and hope for the future,” Governor General Mary Simon said in a statement.

Those named will receive an invitation for an investiture ceremony to be held at a later date.
