a scary trailer for Walter Hill’s western
The new feature film directed by Walter Hill, dead for a dollaris revealed in a first trailer with a western atmosphere.
The 79ᵉ edition of the Venice Film Festival started on August 31 and is in full swing with an impressive selection of wealth. With the return of Darren Aronofsky, Andrew Dominik, Luca Guadagnino, Alejandro González Iñárritu and Romain Gavras, the official competition promises to be quite mind-blowing. Moreover, the first opinions on the shock dive of Netflix in the French suburbs, Athenahave recently been unveiled.
Nevertheless, the films presented out of competition also have something to intrigue. Between the last film directed by Kim Ki-duk, screened posthumously, the spin-off of X, directed by Ti West and the new feature film by Paul Schrader, Venetian festival-goers won’t be bored. Another major event of this Mostra, the return of filmmaker Walter Hill to directing with dead for a dollarwho just unveiled in a first western-themed trailer :
First images, alas, not necessarily reassuring. Between its very flat sepia photography, its majority of close-ups so as not to film too many uneven sets and its atmosphere which apes the codes of the classic western to the point of caricature, this trailer for dead for a dollar is formally not very convincing.
Despite everything, by staging a female character who seems charismatic in the virile world of the western, dead for a dollar could be of interest because of the themes it intends to highlight. Otherwise, its cast has plenty to intrigue since Walter Hill brought together in front of his camera neither more nor less than Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe and Rachel Brosnahan, but also Benjamin Bratt (Traffic), Brandon Scott (13 reasons why) and Hamish Linklater (midnight sermons).
A hell of a cast!
Let’s also not forget that if Walter Hill did not make an impression with his latest Avenger and Lead in the headthe director of night warriors and of 48 hours might still surprise us. The film will tell the story of a famous bounty hunter who is hired to track down and bring back the wife of a Santa Fe businessman, apparently kidnapped by an African-American deserter.
When he finds the woman in question, she is married to the deserter and is hiding in Mexico from her abusive husband who is looking for her. A rather interesting pitch for a film which will be released at the end of September in the United States. As for France, dead for a dollar does not yet have a release date.
