Black Panther 2: after the death of Chadwick Boseman, the director almost made a radical decision – Actus Ciné
Following the death of Chadwick Boseman, ‘Black Panther’ director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler has considered ending his career.
In an interview with Weekly entertainmentRyan Coogler, the screenwriter and director of Black Panther, said he almost left the world of cinema after the death of Chadwick Boseman.
“I was at a time when I was like, ‘I’m getting away from this job.’ I didn’t know if I could do another movie, let alone another Black Panther movie, because it hurt a lot. I I said to myself: “How could I open up and feel again the sensations that the staging gives me?”.”
After the disappearance of the interpreter of T’Challa in August 2020, Ryan Coogler remembered all the moments shared with Boseman and what this Marvel character meant to him.
He specifies : “I thought back to the many conversations we had at the end of his life and decided it made more sense to move on.“.
Ryan Coogler therefore rewrote the script with Joe Robert Cole and Kevin Feige, deciding not to replace Chadwick Boseman but to pay homage to him in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The boss of Marvel recently explained to Empire not having wanted to recast T’Challa because it was much too early. The world was mourning the comedian, it was impossible for Marvel to replace him. Ryan Coogler used this lack to write Black Panther 2.
“It’s my job as a filmmaker to do things that I’m okay with. If I don’t believe in what I’m doing, I’m going to have a hard time getting others to do their best.
For actors to play properly, they have to believe in it. At the end of the day, the choices we make must be sincere. When directors do things they don’t believe in themselves, you can feel it.“
Black Panther 2 is due out in our theaters on November 9th, provided that the new media timeline discussions taking place that day are acceptable to Disney…
