Canal+ announces the shutdown of the 7 channels of the Turner group, but it could be a bluff
Canal+ announces the shutdown of the 7 channels of the Turner group, but it could be a bluff
Canal+ offers should continue to get poorer, but nothing is certain in the end.
Canal+ announces on its website that the channels “Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Boing, Toonami, TCM Cinema, Warner TV and CNN will be discontinued on 01/8/23. agreement not having been found with the Turner Group” A big loss for Canal+ offers, in particular the exclusive Warner TV channel intended for series fans and which broadcasts many premium content from the group. The withdrawal of Warner TV will also be the only impact for Freebox subscribers (in particular with TV by Canal) since all the other channels of the Turner group are already included in Free’s TV offer.
This communication from Canal+ on the removal of certain channels is, however, reminiscent of that made this summer announcing the removal of pay channels from the M6 group, namely CANAL J, MCM, RFM TV and TIJI. Finally, these remained integrated into the Canal+ offers. The objective was therefore to put pressure to bring the negotiations with the channels to a successful conclusion.
Moreover, paradoxically, Canal+ announces in the same message that it is stopping the channels of the Turner group but that “discussions with this partner are nevertheless continuing, hoping to find a favorable outcome.” Nothing seems definitive.
