“FYI, a lot of great frontmen aren’t good singers”

Dee Snider stated that Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was an excellent singer but “not a frontman”.

The topic came up when Snider took to Twitter to commemorate what would have been drummer Cozy Powell’s 75th birthday (Rainbow, black sabbath, Jeff Becketc.) on December 29, 2022.

After the singer of heavy metal called Powell a “god of RockIn a memorial post, another Twitter user referred to the intro to Stargazer, Rainbow’s signature song, to illustrate the greatness of the drummer.

The former frontman of twisted sister responded : “Wasn’t Cozy Powell amazing? Listen to the first 11 seconds of this Rainbow song and you’ll see… Then listen to the rest of Stargazer with the incomparable Ronnie James Dio on vocals and you’ll see why many consider it the best song ever. Metal all time !”

At the mention of Ronnie James Dio, another fan argued that the late singer was the second-best frontman in rock history, second only to Freddie Mercury of Queen.

Seeing this, Snider replied: “You are confusing singing and singing. [divertir la foule, faire le show]. There’s a huge difference between a good frontman and a good vocalist. Ronnie was one of the greatest singers of all time, but as a frontman he was content to just stand there and sing. Freddie was an amazing singer AND a frontman.”

When another fan added that Robert Plant could be the “quintessential frontman”, Dee replied: “I’m a big fan of Plant vocally…but he never shone as a showman. He was very handsome, he had great hair… he stood on stage with one hand up and he sang like crazy… He wasn’t a frontman, in my opinion. And FYI, a lot of great frontmen aren’t good singers.”

Moreover, last year he revealed that he probably won’t be doing any more gigs.

You confuse singing and acting.

There is a huge difference between a great leader and a great singer.

Ronnie was one of the greatest singers of all time, but as a leader he pretty much stood on stage and sang.

I’m a HUGE Plant fan vocally…but he showed me nothing as a performer. He looked amazing, great hair.. stood on stage with one hand up and sang his ass off. Not a leader in my opinion.
