The circumstances of the death of American journalist Grant Wahal are also unclear. His agent, Tim Scanlan, told Reuters that Wahl “appeared to be in some sort of acute distress at the start of overtime” he was covering when he died. The journalist had been talked about at the start of the World Cup after being refused access to a stadium because he was wearing an LGBT shirt.

Qatar World Cup organizers paid tribute to Grant Wahl’s “enormous love of football” and offered condolences to his family, friends and media colleagues.
