Le Goncourt 2022 crowns Brigitte Giraud for live fast, published by Flammarion. She wins ahead of Giuliano da Empoli and Kremlin mag (Gallimard), after fourteen rounds of voting. She succeeds Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, crowned in 2021 for The most secret memories of men (Philip Rey).

The book by Brigitte Giraud, who was also a bookseller, journalist and translator, looks back on a significant episode in her life: the disappearance of her companion in 1999. “Twenty years after the accidental death of her husband Claude on a motorcycle, the author returns to the days leading up to the accident 22 .June 1999. It recalls the perspective of relocation, family obligations, joys and daily hassles,” summarizes the publisher. The epigraph, signed by Patrick Autréaux, which opens the book sets the right tone: “To write is to be taken to this place that one would like to avoid” .
