Helena Bonham Carter calls for an end to The Crown
Helena Bonham Carter asked what the series The crown ends now.
“I should be careful here too, but I don’t think they should go on, actually,” she said in an interview with The Guardian. I’m into it and loved my episodes, but it’s very different now. When The crown began, it was a historical drama, and now it collides with the present.”
However, the actress believes that the decision to end the series is up to the producers.
According to Variety, in 2021 the actress addressed the controversy surrounding The crownregarding the call for a disclaimer that this is historical fiction. The show had been criticized for its dramatization of events in the British Royal Family, particularly the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. In a podcast for the series, the actress who played Princess Margaret said the series was a “drama”, not a “drama documentary”.
Helena Bonham Carter portrayed Queen Elizabeth II’s younger sister in the show’s third and fourth seasons, succeeding Vanessa Kirby. Lesley Manville reprized her role in the fifth season, which is set in the 1990s.
