Hugh Jackman denies taking steroids to play Wolverine
Hugh Jackman has denied taking steroids to prepare for his role as Wolverine.
The Aussie actor played Logan, aka Wolverine, in the X-Men film series between 2000 and 2017 and is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds.
During a recent interview for HBO’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, the host asked him if he ever took steroids to gain muscle mass before playing the superhero. “Over the years people have wondered if he was injecting steroids? Did he take steroids?” he began.
In response, Hugh Jackman claimed he was never tempted as he was aware of the “side effects”.
“No, I like my job. And I love Wolverine, he explained. I have to be careful what I say here, but I have been told anecdotally what the side effects are. And I said to myself: “I don’t really like that”. So no, I just did it the old fashioned way. And I’m telling you, I ate an awful lot of chicken, I’m so sorry for all the vegans and vegetarians and chickens in the world. Literally, karma is not good for me. If divinity has anything to do with chickens, I’m in trouble.”
And as for his next Wolverine incarnation, he shared that he plans to channel all of his energy into preparing for the role once he finishes playing Harold Hill in The Music Man on Broadway this month.
“I learned not to rush. I learned that it takes time. I will be with my family and train. This will be my job for six months. And I’m really in good shape. “There’s one thing that about eight shows a week on Broadway, singing and dancing, is getting fit. So I’m healthy. I’ve got a good starting point.” , continued the 54-year-old star, before adding with humor: “And my apologies, chickens. Run away. Start running now because I’m coming.”
