IKEA launches its first turntable in France
In collaboration with the Swedish music group Swedish House Mafia, Ikea is launching a collection called Obergränsad. It includes around twenty objects, including a turntable which confirms the ambitions of the Swedish giant in sound.
Ikea has more than one trick up its sleeve and the firm caused a sensation a few months ago by announcing a collaboration with Swedish House Mafia. Mentioned during Milan Design Week, the “featuring” was to give birth to a collection called Obergränsad. The merger with the famous group that brings together DJ Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello is also an opportunity to offer a new audio product.
Mentioned before the summer, the turntable is now available in France. France is also taking a little head start since the Obegränsad collection will only be available in October in the rest of the world. IKEA takes advantage of the know-how of its partners to present a minimalist record player. We expected no less from the Swedish furniture giant, which offers a sober and refined product. The plain black dress, characteristic of the collection, and the only presence of two buttons at the front reinforce this feeling. The first allows the Obegränsad to be switched on, while the second is a speed selector.
The tray can accommodate 33 and 45 rpm and there is a “J” arm with an Audio-technica AT3600L cartridge. A entry-level design fairly classic for a turntable that goes straight to the point. It has a phono preamp and an RCA output. “Just connect the RCA cable to a speaker with a built-in amplifier and the USB cable to the power outlet via a USB charger”says IKEA. Note that the USB charger is sold separately.
The turntable does not manage no bluetooth connectivitybut it can work with the Eneby Bluetooth speaker… via a wired connection. The tonearm support has a locking system to prevent damage to the disc. Finally, the cell and the tip can be replaced and purchased from a specialty store.
A complete range
Ikea continues to invite itself into the audio universe, but not only with the help of musical products. The new collection includes different objects developed in collaboration with the electronic music group. Besides the particularity of being completely black, the Obegränsad collection aims to offer “everyone has the opportunity to create their own studio at home” and encourage “creativity at home”. In total, we identify around twenty new products.
Price and availability
The Obegränsad turntable is now available in France at the price of 129 euros. Ikea also takes the opportunity to offer the rest of the collection in France. It is to be discovered on the manufacturer’s website and in several stores; Hénin-Beaumont, Brest, Paris Plaisir, Paris Nord Roissy, Lomme, Bordeaux, Rouen, Caen, Bayonne, La Valette-du-Var, Clermont Ferrand, Paris Franconville, Saint-Étienne, Paris Thiais, Grenoble, Mulhouse, Orléans, Lyon Grand Parilly, City Paris La Madeleine, Decoration Paris Rivoli and Nice.
