Léo Grasset accused of rape and sexual harassment: the Montpellier youtuber denounces “a dishonest portrait” of Médiapart

Five months after a Mediapart article, Léo Grasset, accused of rape and sexual harassment, defended himself this Saturday, November 19 in a video. He denounces a “dishonest portrait” made against him.

In June 2022, a Mediapart survey revealed accusations of rape and sexual harassment against the youtubeur based in Montpellier Léo Grasset. From his nickname DirtyBiology, he was also accused of having been psychologically abused. Eight women then testified against the science popularizer.

This Saturday, November 19, five months after these accusations, Leo Grasset has just published a video in which he shares his “response” to the Mediapart article. He explains that if he waited so long before justifying himself, it was because he was “strength to wait“. “I waited while preparing a point-by-point response on my side “to provide all the possible context”, he explains after being advised by his lawyers.

“A Dishonest Portrait”

The latter details in a long 30-minute video not recognizing oneself in the portrait who was made of him and “categorically denies” the rape charge. “I absolutely do not recognize this description of the events”, he assures before explaining that he will not detail his version of the facts. “For them (his lawyers Editor’s note), we do not defend ourselves from a crime elsewhere than in court,” he adds.

I had a sometimes messy love life, I also sometimes make big redneck jokes

He calls into question an investigation that would paint a portrait of him “dishonest” with “insinuations” and believes that the truncated quotations, the “lunar passages”, the “absurd” accusations and the misinterpretations contribute to “manufacture an image” of him “sordid” and paint the portrait “of a character unhealthy in everything, not only toxic with people but also in his work”.

As reminded BFM TVone of the victims had, in 2016, mentioned a particularly violent scene. At the end of an alcoholic evening, she accused the youtubeur of having “held him with his hands around his neck” and “penetrated with very strong blows” following his refusal to sleep with him.

The videographer also criticizes the journalists of Médiapart at the origin of the investigation for not having highlighted the “strong links” which unite the eight accusers who all belong to the “tiny middle of Youtube”.

A video that does not pass

Justifications that irritated Manon Bril, youtuber who had a relationship with Léo Grasset for several years. “Dare to denigrate the work of a media outlet instead of keeping a low profile, it simply could not be a better demonstration of the profile we are dealing with and its feeling of impunity”, she denounces on Twitter, making note that the video was released on the same day as the organization of a national march against violence against women.

A wave of indignation also took hold of the social network Twitter. The hashtag “TagueuleLéoGrasset” went viral after the video was posted.
