1.4 million subscribers to Netflix Essential with advertising with in the space of two months.

Since November 3, the choice has been left to people interested in Netflix: watch without ads by paying more or opt for the “Essential with ads” offer to save money against a few spots. 2 months after its launch in France, this new formula designed to boost the number of customers of the SVOD juggernaut seems to have found its audience.

According to the OTT NPA Conseil / Harris Interactive barometer, this package with advertising had nearly 1.4 million subscribers at the end of 2022, three out of five would be new customers, enough to allow Netflix to be present at 33.5% of French households, which have their own subscription. This percentage rises to 43% when counting account sharing, which is still more than 20%.

In 2023, Netflix will seek to generate more revenue by rolling out paid account sharing. Last summer, the American behemoth said it was in early stages of work to monetize the 100 million households currently benefiting but not paying directly. “We know this will be a game changer for our members. As such, we launched two different approaches in Latin America to find out more. Our goal is to find an easy-to-use paid tool, a sharing offer that we believe works for our members and our business,” he said. In July 2022, Netflix crossed the 10 million subscriber mark for the first time in France. Today, no less than 13 million French people use the American platform, including code sharing.
