Prince William urges people to take care of ‘nature’

The Prince of Wales attended the annual Tusk Conservation Awards at Hampton Court Palace in London on Tuesday (1.11.22) to honor the unsung conservation heroes dedicated to protecting Africa’s European natural heritage.

Speaking at the event, he said: “We live in turbulent times and it is all too easy to lose sight of the importance of looking after our world and its environment.

“But we must remain focused and invest in environmental protection for future generations.

“We must not pass the baton to our children and grandchildren by apologizing for our lack of concerted action.”

As the ceremony celebrates its 10th anniversary, William – the charity’s royal patron – also reflected on Sir David Attenborough’s words at the event five years ago.

He added: “As Sir David Attenborough reminded us at this ceremony five years ago, Africa’s wildlife is truly special.

What the winners, their dedicated teams and local communities are protecting is “one of the world’s greatest natural treasures”.

“And yet we know that this is only a fraction of what it once was.

“That’s why it’s vitally important that we do everything we can to stop the horrific decline in species that our planet has witnessed over the past 50 years.”

The ceremony was hosted by host and author Kate Silverton. During the evening, four leaders were honored, including two winners of the Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa.
