Overkill bassist thinks his band could have been part of the ‘Big 4’ if only they had sold more records
The bass player ofExaggeratedDD Verni, thinks that his group would have had its place in the “Big Four” of the Thrash Metal – Metallic, Megadeth, Killer and Anthrax – if only he and his bandmates had sold more albums.
He made the remark in a recent interview for MetalSucksstating that he considers Overkill influential enough to be a part of the club, with the only thing lacking being the group’s sales.
When asked if he thought Overkill was given due recognition for his influence on the thrash metal movement, he replied: “I’m not sure we’re recognized [du tout]. I always had the impression that the ‘big four’ were promoted because they sold more. I don’t think it’s a question of influence; it’s a matter of sales. They’ve sold the most records, that’s why they’re the ‘big four’. Overkill, Exodus and Will played an equally crucial role in shaping the genre, and yet we’re often referred to as ‘the new wave’, and that’s because we haven’t sold so many records. If we had sold more records, we would have been among them.”
