Sparkling, sparkling and passionate, Hélène Legrais, the famous writer, enchanted the audience of the Oxymore bookstore on Saturday 7 January.

Strongly led by Claude Faber, founder of Maison des mots, creator of the Oxymore bookstore, the presentation Alchemist from Sant Vicens – published by Calmann-Lévy in November – she conquered the audience from the entire Côte Vermeille to discover the 22nd novel of a journalist, writer, who with all her knowledge, all her sensitivity, all her talent sings the Catalan terroir to the depth of its roots.

From his childhood memories, from his extraordinary documentation, intrigues are born that take your breath away and lead the reader to believe that the heroes of his scenarios are sometimes his closest neighbors, like Suzanne (or Sybilla), like André, the mathematics professor, or again Vivi, the lovely autistic child , who hangs out with Firmino Bauby, the brilliant inventor of Mas Sant Vicens, a cultural landmark if ever there was one. A writer’s adventure celebrating the 80th anniversary of a ceramic workshop frequented by the greatest artists of the 20th century.

Touched in her heart by the magic of words from her earliest childhood, Hélène Legrais shares her love for others, which imbues all her characters: “In the beginning my characters are silhouettes, she confides. When I start writing, they already exist, they are flesh and blood. They live with me. La Transbordeuse d’orange (published in 2005) is still with me.
