Steve Vai says his life would have been totally different if he hadn’t met Joe Satriani
The legendary guitarist Steve Vai paid tribute to another six-string legend, Joe Satriani.
Indeed, in a new interview with LifeMinute, Vai says: “I can’t even imagine what my life would be like without him. When I was 12, a friend of mine, John Sergio, who was already a friend when we were in diapers, was also a great mentor, because he introduced me to all this music that I didn’t know – the Rock 70s progressive.”
He pursues : “He took me to my first concert of Queen. He made me join his group; this is the first group in which I entered at the age of 13 years. He was a very dear friend. [Il avait] amazing musical tastes. He played guitar when I was 12, and it was amazing, because he lived two houses away. Then he said to me, ‘If you think I’m great, you should see my guitar teacher, Joe Satriani’. So he gave me Joe’s number, and I started taking lessons. And from there, my lessons with Joe were all that mattered to me.”
Speaking about his relationship with Joe Satriani, he added: “Joe has always been cool. He was always serious, generous and thorough. He was the best, just what you want in a teacher; we are inspired by what is in front of us.”
