The Attorney General submits his report on the attack on the police in Schaerbeek: “The Brussels Prosecutor’s Office took the report seriously”
The Attorney General of Brussels, Johan Delmulle, submitted his report to the Minister of Justice this Monday morning and in the council, before which Vincent Van Quickenborne and Annelies Verlinden will testify in the afternoon, after the knife attack on police officers in Schaerbeek.
According to a report published by Le Soir and Het Nieuwsblad, the prosecution took the case of Yassine M seriously.”The State Prosecutor’s Office in Brussels took the report seriously, dealt with it in a professional and responsible manner, and the decision was considered and weighed.”performed by Johan Delmulle.
The threats made by Yassine M. at the Evere police station, where he went on Thursday morning, were aimed at the police, despite the confused remarks. “He tells me that he hates the police and that after that hatred he wanted to attack the police several times. (…) He specifies that he does not want to have such ideas, that he needs help. He wants to have a normal life, get married, have children,” is it written in the document, on the testimony of the agent.
The judge was immediately arrested. But the decision not to question him was made collectively. The judge contacted her colleague for organized crime and terrorism, who himself contacted the third officer for terrorism, because Yassine M. was known for radicalization. The latter contacted the cell specialized in radicalism in the Brussels-Midi police zone for advice.
The police were nevertheless ordered to transfer Yassine M. to the psychiatric service in Saint-Luc, which was done. The patient was left in the waiting room, but when hospital staff came to collect him 20 minutes later, he was gone. The agents did not warn the nurses about the patient’s potential danger.
