the drafting does not approve, for the moment, the appointment of Valérie Hurier as its head

The transition at the head of Telerama (Le Monde group) was hoped for without a hitch, but it is unexpectedly complicated. The Télérama Staff Association (APT) met on Thursday 1is December to vote and validate the fact that the current deputy director, Valérie Hurier, will take the helm of the cultural weekly at the beginning of 2023.

But the counting of the ballots, which was to end around 3 p.m., dragged on until the end of the afternoon and a feeling of hesitation ran through the editorial staff. Extremely tight, the vote was contested especially since 129 ballots were present in the ballot box, a number greater than the voters (127).

To the question, “Do you approve of the appointment of Valérie Hurier as editorial director of Télérama? », 59 votes were counted for, 57 against, and 13 blank ballots. It would have taken 64 votes for the leader to take over from Fabienne Pascaud, editorial director for seventeen years, whose mandate comes to an end on December 31, 2022. The latter will not leave Telerama however; the 67-year-old journalist should continue to write articles for the magazine, in parallel with her columns in the program “Le Masque et la plume” on France Inter.

“Need further explanation”

In an email sent to employees of Teleramathe chairman of the weekly’s executive board, Fleur Lavedan, announced shortly after 6 p.m. that the day’s vote was ” invalid “ and that’“a new vote will be[it] organized next weekend ». Probably December 8. According to her, the vote “very divided (…) shows a clear need for additional explanations”. The president of the management board also explained that Valérie Hurier will bring her teams together on Tuesday to defend her project again. “so that it can specify all the necessary points, understand the reasons for concern, be able, if necessary, to respond to them”.

On November 16, Valérie Hurier was chosen to succeed Mme Pascaud by Mme Lavedan, but also by the director of World, Jérôme Fenoglio, and the group’s president, Louis Dreyfus. The journalist, who joined Telerama in 1988, had presented Wednesday November 23 in front of the employees a project which it advocated “collegiate” and the slightly modified management team she wanted to see alongside her. The former deputy director had declared herself a candidate on October 18 and had been the only one to have done so officially internally.
