the film adaptation of the sitcom will be filmed this summer

Filming for the film Community will begin next June and will bring together most of the actors from the original cast.

After many years of fan activism in favor of a feature film based on the comedy created by Dan Harmon, in particular because of the cult mantra: “six seasons and a film”, the Peacock streaming platform has finally announced last September that Community was going to be adapted for the big screen. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, American comedian Joel McHale announced that the movie Community will go into production by next June.

Joel McHale also reaffirmed that Ken Jeong would reprise his role alongside Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs and Jim Rash. Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover have yet to be confirmed as part of the cast, and Chevy Chase is highly unlikely to return after a high-profile falling out over the sitcom. Involved in the project as executive producer alongside Joel McHale, Andrew Guest, Russ Krasnoff and Gary Foster, Dan Harmon also wrote the screenplay which should provide a lot of emotions for fans of the first hour.

Peacock gets the sixth season of Community

Community aired for five seasons on NBC and after it was canceled it was rescued by Yahoo! Screen for a sixth and final season. To set the stage for the film’s arrival, Peacock secured the non-competitive broadcast rights to the sixth season of Community, giving viewers the chance to immerse themselves once again in one of the most cutting edge comedies on American television.

Susan Rovner, Director of Entertainment Content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said:

“Six seasons and a movie” was initially a cheeky phrase from Community’s early seasons that quickly sparked a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and hip NBC comedy. We are incredibly grateful that 15 years later we are able to bring fans the promised film and we look forward to working with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for the Peacock audience.
