The Swiss academic world worried about its eviction from a European forum – rts.ch
Part of the Swiss academic world is concerned about the ousting of Swiss experts from the European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructures (Esfri). “Switzerland is losing an important lever,” lamented the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences (Scnat) on Wednesday.
As Switzerland is not associated with Horizon Europe, the EU program for research and innovation, the Swiss delegation to Esfri and the Swiss experts of the strategy working groups (SWG) are no longer invited to meetings and activities of Esfri, regrets the Scnat.
The country is therefore losing an opportunity to contribute to shaping the European research landscape, particularly in the field of large infrastructures, worries Hans Rudolf Ott, president of the Round Table on Swiss representation in international organizations and research infrastructures. (Rotiori) organized by the Scnat, interviewed Thursday in La Matinale de la RTS.
For the 2021 roadmap of Esfri, Switzerland has engaged delegates in various working groups of this forum and led the working groups on energy and social and cultural innovation.
If the status of Switzerland in relation to Horizon Europe does not change, Switzerland will remain excluded from monitoring the 2021 roadmap, as will probably from the development of the 2025 roadmap, deplore the academicians concerned.
