“We learned so much from everyone”

spirit box had a stellar 2022, reaping the rewards of the success of their debut album Eternal Blue, as well as their EP Rotoscope, and touring with many top bands, including Ghost and Mastodon (in the USA).

In a new interview with Consequence, singer Courtney LaPlante talks about her experience on the road with two of the biggest bands in Rock and of Metal news, as well as what she likes most about Spiritbox.

Speaking of these tours, LaPlante says: “I couldn’t believe it [lorsque nous avons reçu l’offre]. Fortunately, we had plenty of time to prepare, as we knew we had our work cut out for us. Not only did we want to put on a good show for the fans of such amazing bands like Mastodon and Ghost, but we also wanted to show those bands that when you’re a newcomer like Spiritbox, you don’t mess around, you’re serious and professional and you behaves elegantly – we do not disturb anyone.”

She adds : “We learned so much from everyone, not just the bands and their amazing performances, but also the team. It was an incredible experience – I felt like I was in a work placement… Every day, I am impressed by these two groups. They have such an ambitious show, it’s very inspiring.”

When it comes to Spiritbox’s sonic evolution (since its formation in 2016), LaPlante says her favorite thing about the band is not being able to predict what’s next: “I like not to think about it and just see what happens when we hang out and make music. All I know is that Michael [Stringer, guitariste] create crazy songs and I do my best to add vocals that I think fit the music. […] So I do not know [ce qui se passera ensuite]. We’ll see…”

As a reminder, next May, Spiritbox will accompany Ghost on tour again, but this time in France, for eight shows which look spectacular.

In 2021, Spiritbox released their long-awaited debut album, Eternal Bluewhich received critical (and fan) acclaim.

The album reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 in its first week of release, a real tour de force for the debut album of a new metal band, especially in the context of the pandemic.

The band have since released a new EP, titled Rotoscopeconsisting of three quite different sounding songs.

The title track, Rotoscope, accompanied by a video directed by Max Moore (code orange, Coheed and Cambriaetc.), can be (re)listened to below.
