The Pale Blue Eye on Netflix: what is it about?
New York, 1830. On a winter’s morning, the military academy at West Point is stunned by the death of Leroy Fry, a young cadet at the academy. The young man was believed to have committed suicide. So we keep his body in the infirmary while waiting for the funeral ceremonies. But the next day it was discovered that his heart had been taken from him. The leaders of the academy had to shed light on this affair, at the risk of seeing their school closed by the senators who were already threatening.
To solve the case, the colonel appealed to Augustus Landor, a brilliant inspector and widower, retired. To fulfill his mission, the latter was accompanied by a brilliant young soldier of the fourth year, poet and writer, Edgar Allan Poe.

Absolutely yes ! The Pale Blue Eye is a detective and drama very interesting to see. The film starts well and quickly plunges us into the heat of the action. Inspector Augustus Landor wastes no time either. He goes straight into his investigations and one takes pleasure in following him in the proofs he amasses, the deductions he makes from them and the conclusions he reaches.
Quickly, the inspector lives up to his reputation and proves that the young Leroy Fry did not commit suicide. It was more like a murder. But what was he doing outside on the evening of a curfew and what human would have reached such a degree of cruelty? For the medical examiner, only a man can commit such a heinous crime. Wrong path !
Blocked in investigations by the military code of silenceLandor turns to a fourth-year student: Allan Poe. Very brilliant, the young Edgr Poe allows Landor to regain his senses to continue his investigation until he finds the culprit.

The Pale Blue Eye is surely not movie of the yearbut impossible not to salute the strength and effort of the directors and actors.
The first succeeded in reproducing the typical costumes of the 1800s. The atmosphere and mood of the film help reinforce the kind of crime that is being investigated.
And how not to salute the great Christian Bale. His acting has never betrayed him and he carried his character brilliantly. It is the same with Harry Melling who played Edgar Allan Poe. You may find it difficult to recognize the latter. This is Dudley, a character from Harry Potter.
Finally, the film proves to us that distress is a very deep evil which can lead to the commission of heinous crimes.
