Zakk Wylde uses YouTube tutorials to learn some Pantera guitar parts
Zakk Wylde revealed some of the songs that Pantera could perform on his upcoming shows, and said he uses YouTube tutorials to help him learn certain parts.
In July, it was announced that Wylde and Charlie Benante, drummer ofAnthraxalong with surviving members of Pantera, vocalist Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, would tour as Pantera, headlining a number of major festivals in North America, South America and in Europe, and that they would give a few headlining concerts.
Zakk opened up about his participation in the Pantera Celebration Tour during an appearance on Sunday With Ola, the show of Ola Englund, the Swedish guitarist, record producer and owner of Solar Guitars.
When asked if he had started learning Pantera’s music, Zakk replied: “Yes of course. I’ve been working on it for a while now. I had to buy a whammy pedal. I had never purchased any of these things. Grady [Champion, qui était le technicien guitare de Dimebag Darrell tout au long de sa carrière avec Pantera] will probably take care of that. So yes, I’m the proud owner of a whammy pedal now [rires].”
Zakk Wylde went on to say that he’s been watching guitar tutorials online to learn some of the more complicated parts of the late Dimebag ahead of Pantera’s upcoming gigs: “All the things I was stuck on, I was like, ‘How does it play?’ and I was going to YouTube. I found lots of other amazing musicians playing those songs.”
The guitarist ended by indicating that he was working on learning the setlist (which apparently includes Cowboys From Hell, Walk, A New Level and Becoming) and that he would reunite with the rest of the band in the coming weeks ( for repetitions).
In the past, Wylde has said he’ll be as faithful to Dimebag’s work as possible – but he warned fans not to expect a carbon copy on stage.
